It’s Official: The Witcher 3 is Getting a New DLC

Songs of the Past is a brand-new expansion coming in 2027 for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It will be available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.

A new expansion has been announced for CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Titled “Songs of the Past,” it looks to take players “to the Path with Geralt of Rivia once more,” and will release in 2027 for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. This new expansion is being co-developed with Polish studio “Fool’s Theory” of “The Thaumaturge” fame, a 2024 RPG which has been well received. Fool’s Theory is also remaking The Witcher 1, and is helping with development on The Witcher 4 (Eurogamer).

Not much else is known about Songs of the Past, but CD Projekt promises “more information in late summer.” CD Projekt is also looking to update The Witcher 3’s PC system requirements: “With new content coming to the game, we need to update our system requirements to ensure smooth performance and compatibility going forward for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Songs of the Past.”

CD Projekt wanted to reveal Songs of the Past during May 28th’s REDstreams, but things did not go as planned: “We original planned to make this big reveal during our REDstreams tomorrow, but let’s say we found something we didn’t yet expect on RED Launcher.”  The existence of a new The Witcher 3 expansion was a poorly kept secret to begin with.

As reported by Eurogamer, Borys Nieśpielak was the first to break the news on the upcoming DLC. When talking to Robert Purchese, he explained that the “information was verified by several independent sources.” Reputable industry insider NateTheHate would later state that the expansion does exist, adding credibility to Nieśpielak’s claims. While nothing beyond its name is known, it is fair to speculate that Songs of the Past will bridge the gap between The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and The Witcher 4. As such, Ciri may play an important role in the upcoming expansion.
