“We Do Not See AI as a Substitute For Human Work”: Developer Warhorse Studios Responds to AI Allegations

Kingdom Come: Deliverance II developer Warhorse Studios has answered questions pertaining to the use of AI in its games, and explained it does not see AI as a substitute for human work.

In a recent Reddit AMA (ask me anything), Kingdom Come: Deliverance II developer Warhorse Studios has answered many questions regarding the development of its games, some of which pertain to its use of AI. One of the studio’s statements reads: “We do not see AI as a substitute for human work, and we are currently looking to expand the company, including our translation team.”

The mention of a translation team is important, as it was only a month ago that former Czech to English Warhorse Studios translator Max H claimed he was fired in an effort to “make the company more effective” and “save finances.” He was allegedly told his position would become obsolete in favor of using AI for all translations going forward.

In its AMA Reddit thread, Warhorse Studio directly addressed this specific matter when answering Reddit user Very_Human_42069’s question, which reads: “Why did you fire an employee that played such a crucial part of bringing this game to the English-speaking world, and why do you plan on using AI going forward?” A Warhorse spokesperson answered by explaining that the story “touches on HR matters” and that no comments about past or present employees can be made, as it would be “deeply unprofessional.” They continued: “What I can say is that we are currently in the process of hiring new English translators. Actual humans.”

This does not rule out the possibility of Warhorse Studios using AI in its future development cycles, as some of its team members find AI useful during early stages of production. What the studio does not want, however, is the presence of AI-generated content in its finished games, with “no plans to change this in the future.” This story echoes the backlash Larian Studios faced at the end of 2025.

In December of last year, Jason Schreier of Bloomberg interviewed Swen Vincke, Larian Studios CEO, following the reveal of its next game “Divinity,” at The Game Awards. In that interview, Vincke confirmed the studio uses AI to “explore ideas,” but he made it clear that no AI-generated content would make it to the final game. This statement caused quite the stir on X, which pushed Warhorse Studios co-founder Daniel Vávra to defend Vincke’s stance on the use of AI in game development: “I’m no fan of generated art, but anyway, it’s time to face reality. AI is here to stay with us. As frightening as it may be, that’s the way it is.”
