Resident Evil Requiem Has Been Cracked. Is It Over For Denuvo?

The latest entry in the Resident Evil series has been cracked, less than two months after its release. Have pirates finally cracked Denuvo’s code for good?

Resident Evil Requiem might have been too popular for its own good, as pirates have found a way to bypass its controversial anti-tamper DRM software, Denuvo. One prominent hacker going by the handle “voices38” is believed to be the one responsible for the feat, barely two months after RE9’s release. This is different to the hypervisor cracking method which has been making the rounds recently. The latter basically disables your computer’s security systems to run a game, a risk that is not worth taking. But in Requiem’s case, all the new crack does is mess with the executable, making it a much safer alternative.

Voices38’s post on Reddit

Capcom is sure to take action in the future, as its modern releases have Denuvo attached to the hip. Its only DRM-free heavy hitter is Resident Evil 4 Remake. This one went through a strange ordeal when it had its DRM software swapped from Denuvo to Enigma Protector earlier this year (via PCGamesn). It did a number on the game’s performance and has since been removed.

This war of attrition between anti-piracy technologies and hackers has been going on for years, and it keeps evolving on both sides. In a recent Reddit post, voices38 explains that when compared to Doom: The Dark Ages’ version of Denuvo, which they only bypassed very recently, RE9’s already has two new features. They also confirm that Resident Evil Requiem is the most challenging Denuvo game they have cracked yet.

One question remains. What is the next game on Voices38’s hit list? Pragmata could be the one. This new IP by Capcom is releasing in just under a week and is already slated to feature old faithful Denuvo. This will surely affect the game’s performance on release, as the anti-tamper software is infamous for tanking your FPS. Regardless, Voices38 remains optimistic about their chances with future Denuvo releases. In their own words, “All can be cracked.”
